New Dresses, Hooray

...Because I don't have enough of those.

Seriously, though, I recently ordered the Coach Tour and Groove You Right dresses from ModCloth, and when they arrived yesterday, I decided to have a little photo shoot and put up my first outfit post on this blog. Since they're so cute.

With both I was wearing black teggings from Re/Dress NYC and wide calf boots from Simply Be.

Casual Thanksgiving

Casual Thanksgiving

I don't know about anyone else, but in my family holidays are pretty laid-back affairs. Thanksgiving usually consists of hanging around at my brother's apartment, drinking and watching the National Dog Show (which is more important than the parade, in my opinion) until dinner is ready. Once everyone has a few cocktails in them, we might play some Cards Against Humanity.

There's no reason to dress up, so I usually opt for something casual and comfortable. Those Old Navy sweatpants are a dream -- especially with that waistband after dinner -- and the ModCloth t-shirt is comfortable but still looks cute. The boots are, unfortunately, a necessity in case that forecasted snow turns up. The tote bag will nicely carry all the things I need (books, knitting) to ignore everyone when I've reached an overload of human interaction.

It's stuffing time.

Feeling Dark

Darkness

Sometimes you've got to channel your inner goth a little bit. Black jeans, a dark simple top, and basic jewelry (though, out of respect, maybe don't wear a pentagram unless you're a practicing Wiccan, pagan, or some other group that uses it). I love that big black bag; it's cute and stylish but will still hold all the stuff I cart around when I'm racing from work to class.

Sometimes I Make Things: The Loki Hat

While this is primarily a style blog, I am an avid knitter, so I will be dedicating some occasional space to sharing knitting projects (finished or in-progress) that I'm proud of.

Today: the Loki hat

The pattern for this hat is an adaptation of the helmet that Loki wears in the Avengers comics and film. It's done in intarsia, which makes it impossible to knit a true in-the-round hat, but I used the yarnover method to be able to work in the round for everything except the colorwork.

(Wow, my hair was long.)

This was a relatively easy pattern, even though I'm normally not a fan of colorwork, and it appeals to my nerdy side without feeling like I'm walking around in costume all day. The only drawback is that it's basically my high school colors. I might have enjoyed high school more if there were attractive Asgardian gods hanging around.

Fabulous for Fall

Fall

Here in NYC, the line between fall and winter has started to blur, and soon we may be under a crush of snow. So let's get as much use out of our cute non-boot shoes and colorful dresses while we can.

The umbrella print on this dress from ModCloth (now sold out, unfortunately) gives a little nod to dreary weather, but the blue skirt brings out some cheer, almost like that patch of sky poking out through clouds. All-black accessories allow the dress to really pop without stealing focus. Oh, and those little triforce earrings are a nice touch to let your inner geek out without overpowering a daytime look.
